The Importance Of Consistent Effort

Discover why consistency, not motivation, is the invisible force that transforms your personal brand from forgotten to followed!

In a world obsessed with overnight success stories and viral moments, there's an unsexy truth hiding in plain sight: consistency beats talent, luck, and even genius when building a personal brand that lasts.

In episode 150 of the Market YOU First podcast, I'm celebrating not just a milestone, but a personal victory over one of my most significant challenges—consistency. After years of sporadic content (just four episodes in both 2023 and 2024!), I've finally completed 100 episodes in a row. The difference? I stopped waiting for motivation and embraced systems instead.

The Branding Mindset Shift 💡

Did you know it takes an average of 66 days to form a new habit—not the 21 days we've all been told? This research-backed insight reveals why so many of us struggle with consistency. We give up too soon.

Your brand isn't built on one viral post or excellent client meeting. It's built in the spaces in between—the daily, often unsexy actions that nobody applauds for. When I was inconsistent with my content, my audience couldn't depend on me, and my message wasn't amplified. The algorithms almost forgot I existed.

Consistency matters because it's the difference between being forgotten and being followed. It's what separates businesses that merely survive from those that truly thrive.

Defining Your Unique Consistency Formula 🎤

Not all consistency strategies are created equal. The key is finding what works specifically for YOU. Here are three game-changing approaches that transformed my brand:

1. Create Systems, Not Goals

Goals are destinations, but systems are vehicles. Don't just set a target to post content twice weekly—create a system where content creation happens automatically in your schedule.

Action step: Block time in your calendar, prepare templates, and batch your work. For example, I now record Thursday, Friday, and Saturday's podcasts in one session, banking them for scheduled release. The system delivers consistency when motivation inevitably fails.

2. Embrace the Consistency Minimum

Define your non-negotiable baseline. What's the minimum viable consistency you can maintain even on your worst days?

For me, it became one podcast per day—not perfect, not lengthy, just done. Your minimum consistency might be one post per week or two client check-ins per month. Small actions repeated without fail create momentum.

3. Track Your Consistency Streaks

What gets measured gets managed. Use a simple calendar or habit tracker to mark your consistency. Those visual chains of successful days create a psychological commitment—you won't want to break the chain.

My 100-episode streak became something I fiercely protected, and now it's one of my most valuable assets.

Leveraging Your Natural Strengths for Authentic Consistency ✅

Consistency isn't one-size-fits-all. Your version needs to align with your unique strengths and circumstances:

  • Are you a morning person? Front-load your consistency tasks before noon

  • Visual communicator? Maybe Instagram is your channel, not podcasting

  • Written communicator? Perhaps blogging is your sweet spot.

Your brand will thrive on authentic consistency. Don't try to be consistent with things that drain you completely. Find the intersection between your audience's needs and what you can deliver sustainably.

Remember, consistency showcasing your natural talents will outperform forced efforts in channels that don't fit you.

Monetizing Your Consistent Personal Brand 💰

When you show up consistently, magical things happen:

  1. Algorithms start recognizing and rewarding you with greater reach

  2. Audience trust deepens as they know they can count on you

  3. Referrals increase because you're top-of-mind when opportunities arise

  4. You position yourself as the reliable expert in your field

Each consistent action compounds over time. My first few episodes after returning barely registered. But by episode 50 in my streak, engagement had quadrupled. By episode 100, new business opportunities started appearing without my having to chase them.

Consistency isn't just about discipline—it's about leveraging the most powerful marketing asset: reliability.

Your 30-Day Consistency Challenge

Today, identify your consistency minimum—the simplest, most sustainable action you can take to build your personal brand. Please write it down, schedule it in your calendar as a recurring event, and commit to it for the next 30 days.

No excuses, no exceptions.

Was doing 100 broadcasts in a row easy? Not. But I said I would, so I did. Whether it's one LinkedIn post per week or one client follow-up per day, define your minimum and protect it like your business depends on it.

Because guess what? It does.
