Wes Wyatt - Day 36 of 90 Day Challenge - Ever Heard of a Do Over?
It’s Tuesday October 16th, 2007 and Day 36 of my 90 Day Challenge.
Over a week has gone by since my last post. Ironically it was on keeping content fresh and excuses! Yikes!
And here comes the broken record comment. I haven’t done a Vlog in several days - but what’s up so far is ready to view, rate, and comment on at YouTube.com! Feel free to go and catch up for when I’m FINALLY posting videos again! I’ll be starting the videos up again VERY soon!
So it’s Tuesday - and that means it’s time for The Tuesday Rant.
Have you ever heard of a “Do Over”?
One of my favorite movies of all time is City Slickers. Not only does it have a fun cast - but it’s just chocked full of lessons. One of those lessons is when Billy Crystal tells Daniel Stern his life is a “Do Over”. And I just love that!
Why isn’t this concept more widely utilized?
Let’s take yours truly for a minute. When I started this 90 Day Challenge - my intention was to make a Blog Post and a Vlog Post every day. Guess what? It didn’t happen! But on the first day I missed - I didn’t throw up my hands and say, “Oh well! I screwed that up! I might as well not even do this challenge now!” Instead - I just continued on where I was supposed to be.
One of my mentors - Mr. Dave Savula - was recently speaking about the concept of “Be Here A Year From Now“. The idea of this concept is to think outside of short-term and to never give up. And as motivating as it is - it just didn’t cut the mustard with Mr. Savula. He said, “I say take it away / throw it away! Be here FOREVER!”
That’s awesome! If you believe that if you have 1% doubt then you’re out - then FOREVER is THE ONLY option!
Even though I’m calling this a 90 Day Challenge - as long as I don’t kick the oxygen habit - I’ll still be posting on Day 100, 1000, and 10,000! I won’t let a missed day (or week) - keep me from my goals and my dreams!
The worst couple months of stop and start goals are almost upon us. What? The holidays and the New Year. People will eat like there’s no tomorrow for the next couple of months - making and breaking diets along the way. And then come the first of the year - they’ll promise themselves that THIS year will be THE year everything changes! And if you’re a member of a gym - you’re well aware of this! The first couple weeks of January - you can’t find an open machine! But by mid-February - you could swing a jump rope and not hit anyone!
Why? People - yours truly included - do this. THIS year is the year I eat right, exercise every day, and start living better! Then as soon as life steps in and blacks their eye and knocks them off schedule - it’s over! Instead of screaming, “DO OVER” - and resetting - they smack the mat and give up!
If you REALLY want to make a positive and permanent change - you have to decide you’re in it forever! You have to decide that no matter what life gives you - you’re going to make constant strides toward your goals!
What are some steps that will help you towards doing this?
- Write down your goals - and put them where you HAVE to look at them all the time!
- Make your goals PUBLIC so that you’re held accountable to them!
- Find yourself a “Running / Workout Partner” that constantly reminds you of your goals - and vice / versa!
- If you encounter a set back - don’t give up - RESET! Call a “DO OVER”!
There are several other ways to accomplish your goals - but the above steps will get you going on the right path!
Do yourself a favor! Don’t wait until January 1st, 2008 to get started! You don’t even know if you’ll be around tomorrow - let alone months from now! January 1st is only a day! If we’re blessed - we get thousands of em’ over a lifetime! Make EVERY one of em’ count!
