I was speaking to a friend last night and learned that Don Lapre had died of an alleged suicide.
Long before Don Lapre was pitching “The Greatest Vitamin In The World” – he was best known for his “Making Money” Program.
If you’re my age – you’ll remember him late at night talking about placing “Tiny Classified Ads” – and having made thousands of dollars from his “Tiny one bedroom apartment”.
It can take a lifetime to build trust, reputation, and character – and only a moment to annihilate it.
Love or hate him – and this industry – exposure to his infomercials is what sparked my entrepreneurial spirit.
I wish I could have spoke to Don in the moments before he (allegedly) took his own life – and told him this. I’d also tell him how many people I’ve shared that spirit with over the years. I haven’t made millions of dollars – but I have had the opportunity to be my own boss, stay at home with my kids, and do a lot of other activities associated with working from home. And I bet I wouldn’t be the only one telling him this.
With that said – I DO NOT in any way, shape, and/or form support what he and his company supposedly did to people.
As marketers – there are HUGE lessons to be learned from all of this!
It can take a lifetime to build trust, reputation, and character – and only a moment to annihilate it.
Do EVERYTHING in your power to under sell and over deliver!
Leave behind a lifetime of having been a Go Giver – and not a taker.
