Haunted Ohio
First of all - let me tell you I’m NOT a person that associates every sound a house makes settling, squeeky doors, and things that go bump in the night as ghosts. As a matter of fact - I’m quite the opposite. So as you listen to this story - know it happened 100% as I’m describing it!
To tell this story - first I have to tell you another one to frame how some of it come about.
My Mom had a laundry room that had two doors leading into it - the garage and the back deck. She worked 2nd Shift and wouldn’t get home until almost 11:30p.m.. One night as she was opening the garage to come in - a burglar was coming in the back door at the same time. They basically scared the hell out of each other - and as luck would have it - instead of continuing into the house as planned - he ran.
So after this happened - she tricked her house out with the most insane Alarm System available! This thing was hardwired into the Police and Fire Department - and when it was armed a mouse couldn’t run through the house without being detected.
Now that brings us back to my original story.
I had come over to visit and was in her basement. I had the above mentioned alarm armed, the television off, and was working on her computer. All of sudden - I heard the sound of footsteps over my head and they were coming right towards the basement stairs where I was at.
It was right around the time she’d come home - and I thought she’d disarmed the system from outside - so I didn’t think anything about it. That was until I followed the sound to the logical place it was coming next - which was the basement stairs. What I saw next scared me half to death! At the bottom of the stairs - my Mom’s two cats and her dog were staring up at the top of the stairs and where freaked out! The two cats looked like they’d had every hair on their bodies straightened! They were BOTH puffed up to maximum size! And her dog was shaking like a leaf - as if she were being yelled at for doing something wrong. And as if seeing the 3 pets in that way wasn’t scary enough already - right at that moment I heard a man say, “You’re a good girl.“ It was a very deep and soothing voice - and not menacing in any way. But after he finished talking - all 3 pets scattered off like they’d been shot out of a pistol!
Even though I almost pee’d my pants after witnessing all this - I had to go and find out what was going on. So I went immediately upstairs after whatever was up there - and found the before mentioned alarm system still armed. I went through every square inch of the house even looking in cabinets, closets, under beds, and behind curtains - and found NOTHING! Had someone come in - and/or went out - the alarm would have sounded and there was NOTHING!
To this day - telling the story gives me Goose Bumps!
Ohio has a great tradition of ghost stories - and I’m proud to add my “You’re A Good Girl” to the mix.
Have a DYNAMITE day - and a fantastic Halloween Weekend!
