Fake It ‘Till You Make It…

By Wes Wyatt

Let me tell you a story – I posted on NextInternetMillionaire.com recently.

3 Traveling Salesmen are tired of driving and need a sleeping room for few hours. They stop at a hotel to get a room – and the Manager tells them the room will be $30. Each of the men pull out a $10 Bill and pay him. After going up to the room – the Manager realizes he overcharged them – because the room should have only been $25. So he hands the Bellboy five
$1 Bills and tells him to go refund the money. On the elevator ride up to the room – the Bellboy wonders how he’ll refund $5 to 3 men and decides it’ll be easier to keep a $2 tip for himself and tell each man they were owed $1. Now each man initially paid how much? $10 – right? And each man was given back how much? $1 – right? Now that means each paid how much for the room? $9 – right? And 3 times $9 equals what? $27 – right? And how much did the Bellboy keep as a tip? $2 – right? So what happened to the other $1?

It’s funny how the telling of a story can affect the outcome?

The way this story is told – it “sounds” correct.  The truth is – there isn’t a dollar missing.

There are people out there telling stories where just the opposite occurs.  Dollars appearing that aren’t there!

In this industry – many leaders will tell you to “Fake it – ’till you make it.”.

If you’re sad – it’s OK to act happy.  If you’re tired – it’s OK to act alert.  But if you’re not successful in what you’re marketing – don’t lead people to believe you are.

Raise the bar and make this industry one that people trust!

Oh Wes this is really good! I can name several bloggers, very well known bloggers in the sphere that are faking it. I have seen numbers mysteriouly spike and financial reports appear out of nowhere. Amazingly these false numbers and results are working in their favor becasue there are so many folks out there that believe everything they read, but don’t take the time to watch the ’story’ develop.

Again, Great post and good luck on your 90 Day Challenge!

That’s deep. I never thought of it that way. Sometimes the light isnt always there but when its turn on oh how it shines.

Awesome story! I’ve not heard that before.

What a wonderful demonstration of how well displayed information can be used to make people come up with wrong answers to seemingly simple problems.

Now about that thieving bellboy, get the torches and pitch forks, it’s time for lynch’n.

Driving the point home. I always have to wonder if those dollars are actually there or a figment of their imaginations. Worthy post.
